Where it all started
The property ”De Voetangel” was founded around 1626, when it first served as an inn. Throughout the centuries, various tenants and landlords have ensured its continued existence. From the start of the 20th century right up until today, the family Leurs have taken care of it, guiding it through its various ups and downs. Around 1920, Rijk Leurs worked from the location as a sand and gravel skipper. In 1931, Driekus Leurs bought the inn and fuel trade business, whilst his brother Manus took over ship with the sand and gravel business. In addition, together with his wife Lien, Driekus opened a café and tea house in the inn. The son of Driekus, Richard Leurs, became the official owner of “De Voetangel” in January 1968.
With the fuel trade gradually disappearing, Richard and his wife Ans decided to make catering their main business. They managed to develop the restaurant into a thriving business, whilst staying true to their old principles: warm hospitality. Later on, in 1983, 2002 and 2006, radical renovations to the building followed. And in the present day, the 4th generation Leurs has made an entrance: daughter Conny and son Henk with his girlfriend Sabine.
